We at Crosswind Kennel strive to produce German Shorthair Pointers (GSP) that exceed the performance of typical GSP's. These dogs are bred from some of the finest field trial stock available. They are extremely athletic, with plenty of drive and desire to withstand the pressures that it takes to compete at a national level. Yet, they are still remain very biddable and possess that willingness to please attitude. We breed for a GSP that is a little finer boned, smaller framed and carries less of the muscle mass then the larger GSP's. With this you will get more agility and greater endurance/stamina. Many of our dogs are bought with the sole purpose of wild bird hunting. Many are kept in the house as pets with excellent results. We want to provide you with a dog that you will be proud to own, and get years of enjoyment from.
From a hobby to a dream business...
I bought my first bird dog at age 13. I have been involved with the training and breeding of bird dogs for over 20 years. I started competing dogs in the AKC Hunt Tests and National Shoot to Retrieve Events many years ago. I have campaigned dogs for myself and others across most of the United States. I have trained and handled dogs to accumulate between 45 to 50 NSTRA championships. I have won 6 National Championship Events and placed in the top four 7 other times. This experience, and working with hundreds of dogs over the years, has provided me with many examples of what it takes, in both my breeding and training programs, to build a dog that can be consistently competitive at a National level and also be able withstand the rigors of wild bird hunting, yet remain biddable enough to work at the range you want them to.
All these accomplishments would never have been possible for me to reach if I didn't have some great support. My wife Jill and my brother Kevin are always involved with the day to day kennel operations. Kevin handles all of our game bird operation, from incubating eggs to flight conditioning the adults, It takes good birds to build good dogs.Kevin also helps with the training chores when time permits. Jill helps with the day to day feeding and care and also handles most of the puppy raising. I would be lost without their help.
