GSPWhat does Crosswind Kennel mean to me?

We at Crosswind Kennel strive to produce German Shorthair Pointers (GSP) that exceed the typical GSP's. These dogs are bred from some of the finest field trial stock available. They are real athlete's that have enough drive and desire to withstand the pressures that it takes to compete at a national level. Yet, they are still very biddable and possess that willingness to please attitude. We breed for a GSP that is a little finer boned and carries less of the muscle mass then the big boned type GSP's. With this you will get more agility and greater endurance. Many of these dogs are bought with the sole purpose of wild bird hunting and are also kept in the house as pets with excellent results. We want to provide you with a dog that you will be proud to own, hunting dog, or trial dog.

From a hobby to a dream business...

I bought my first bird dog at age 13. I have been involved with the training and breeding of bird dogs for over 20 years. I started competing dogs in the AKC Hunt Tests and National Shoot to Retrieve Events many years ago. I have campaigned dogs for myself and others across most of the United States. I have trained and handled dogs to accumulate between 45 to 50 NSTRA championships. I have won 5 different National Events and placed in the top four 6 other times. This experience, and working with hundreds of dogs over the years, has provided me with many examples of what it takes, in both the breeding and training program, to build a dog that is consistently competitive at a National level and yet be able take wild bird hunting and remain biddable enough to work at the range you want them to.

All these accomplishments would never have been possible for me to reach if I didn't have some great support. My wife Jill and my brother Kevin are always involved with the day to day kennel operations. Kevin handles all of our game bird operation, from incubating eggs to flight conditioning the adults, and also helps with the training chores when time permits. Jill helps with the day to day feeding and care and also handles most of the puppy raising. I would be lost without their help.
